Children's Hospital of Pgh of UPMC

Dear Friends of Children’s,

Welcome to the Summer 2010 issue of Promises magazine, a resource for parents provided by Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.

We recently celebrated the first birthday of the new Children's Hospital. After years of planning, coordination, and construction, the new hospital sits atop the hill in Lawrenceville and gleams like a jewel in the Pittsburgh skyline.

But the real treasure is what happens inside the building, and your support is needed to ensure that this treasure grows and flourishes in the years to come.

As it has been for 120 years, Children's Hospital is the only hospital in the region solely dedicated to the health and well-being of children, and our mission of providing excellence in patient care, teaching, and research is an expensive proposition.

Many of the attributes that make Children's a special place – groundbreaking diagnostics and treatment, unparalleled psychosocial support for families, and research breakthroughs – are made possible through philanthropic support and not government assistance or insurance reimbursement. You'll read about some of this work in Promises.

Community support of Children's Hospital has long been a Pittsburgh tradition. In fact, it was a philanthropic gift that originally created the hospital at the turn of the 20th century.

Be a part of the tradition. Support the lifesaving, award-winning patient care and research that takes place at Children's Hospital every day.

To receive information about specific hospital programs and services that are available for support, visit Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation's website at www.givetochildrens.org.

Thank you for supporting this Pittsburgh treasure.

J. Gregory Barrett
President, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation
