WorryWoes

It’s ok for your child to worry about an upcoming test, for instance, or a tryout for the class play. But when she becomes consumed with worry, it may be necessary to seek professional help to find out the cause, says child psychologist Carla Weidman, PhD, who practices at Children’s Child Development Unit. First, have your child’s pediatrician do a thorough checkup to rule out physical conditions.

If no problems are discovered and the anxiety persists, you can help your child:

  • Practice deep breathing exercises.
  • Encourage healthful eating (lots of fruits and vegetables) and activity (go for walks together).
  • Remember to tell your child, “I love you.”
