Ambulance Call 911!

When every minute counts, you want all roads to lead to Children’s Emergency Department (ED), the only ED in the region dedicated solely to the care of children.

The ED has its own separate entrance on 44th Street (ambulances use a different entrance), with family parking only an access ramp away. Embedded in the ED is the Benedum Pediatric Trauma Program, the only Level 1 Regional Resource Pediatric Trauma Center in the region.

Boy with Helicopter

By Car, By Ambulance, By Helicopter

Some arrive at Children’s by helicopter, landing on the hospital’s 12th-story rooftop. Accompanied by a medical transport team, patients are quickly moved downstairs to the Benedum Pediatric Trauma Program, the only accredited Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center in southwestern Pennsylvania. The roof has two pads — one for landing and take-off, and the other for parking a helicopter.
