Frequently Asked Questions About H1N1 Vaccination

Q: If my child had the seasonal flu vaccine, is she protected against swine flu?
A: No. The seasonal flu vaccination does not provide protection against the swine flu (H1N1).

Q: How is the H1N1 vaccination given?
A: At this time there is limited availability of the H1N1 vaccine. There is a larger supply of the FluMist® form.

Q: Can my child get the swine flu vaccine at the same time as the seasonal flu vaccine?
A: If your child received his seasonal flu vaccine through FluMist®, the nasal spray, then there needs to be a 28-day gap before receiving the H1N1 FluMist®.

Q: Do children of all ages get the same vaccine?
A. The vaccination is age-specific. Children 6 months to 2 years of age receive a mini-dose of the vaccine. All others receive the regular dose. Children between 6 months and 9 years of age will need two doses of the H1N1 vaccine for full immunity. Children at 10 years and older will only need to receive one dose for full immunity.
