While Jon and Joni Perry took turns staying at Children’s Hospital with their 2-year-old son Trevor, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, they were touched by the plight of families who couldn’t afford to be with their sick sons and daughters. Trevor is now fully recovered. And the Pennies from Heaven Fund established by the Perrys five years ago is still going strong, offering financial assistance to help cover travel costs, sibling care and other expenses. More than $151,000 was given to 2,700 families last year, making it possible for parents and guardians to stay with their sick children. To donate, go to
