Radiology at Children’s North, Children’s East
Children’s North now offers MRI and fluoroscopy services Monday through Friday. Additional slots are available for cookie swallows. At Children’s East, ultrasound is available Mondays and Tuesdays. To schedule MRI and ultrasound services, call 412-692-5500.
EEG Services at Children’s South
EEGs at Children’s South can be scheduled from 8 a.m.–2 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and from 10 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Tuesdays. For EE G appointments at Children’s South and in Oakland, call 412-692-7833.
Pediatric Aerodigestive Center Opens
Children’s new Pediatric Aerodigestive Center provides care to children with tracheostomy tubes and a wide variety of airway and feeding disorders, and it is the site of Children’s first Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing studies. For more information, call

Listen to Children’s Safety Expertise on Your iPod
Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC has launched a new podcast series specifically for parents, caregivers and educators. The aim of the series is to convey safety information about everyday activities in a timely and convenient way.
Our first set of podcasts cover bike safety, helmet fitting and car seat safety. In each, Pittsburgh news personality Sheila Hyland leads Children’s experts in a discussion about these topics. The podcasts are available free of charge at www.chp.edu/podcast or on iTunes, where you can listen from the Web or download to an iPod or mp3 player. Additional podcasts are planned for release in 2008. If you have a suggestion for a future topic, please send it to podcast@chp.edu.
Alumni Day Set for April
The Physician Alumni Association at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC will host Alumni Day on Friday, April 4, 2008. Presenters will include:
- Thomas E. Starzl, MD, PhD, transplant pioneer
- J. Carlton Gartner Jr., MD, pediatrician-in-chief, Alfred J. duPont Hospital for Children and 2002 Mermelstein Award winner
- Donald Fischer, MD, chief medical officer, Highmark, and former Children’s medical director
- Timothy Kane, MD, FACS, FAAP, director of Minimally Invasive Surgery at Children’s and co-director, UPMC Center for Surgical Innovation
- Vivek Allada, MD, clinical director of Children’s Division of Pediatric Cardiology
All Children’s alumni will receive registration information in early 2008.
